Weekly Reflection 5/9/16

This past week we celebrated Mother's Day and I used this time to compare how "Marshallese" people celebrate it and how America celebrate it. In the Marshall Islands we all go to church(till like 3am) to celebrate mother's day because  we "Man's" the Islands are very blessed to be surrounded by beautiful woman's. In the USA we celebrate mother's day by giving mom's lovely flowers, chocolate, and folded cards that was made "from the heart" and from "DOLLAR GENERAL" aha. A lot of great memories are made on this day for our mom. From the islands half way across the world, to the desert lands of Tucson, AZ, when its time to celebrate mother's day WE all have give our heart and love to our mommy's

Weekly reflection 4/4/16

This week I wasn't working on my #PVhasPassion because I had to catch up with my grade and make up my credits that I need to have so I can graduate. The next week I will update this post with more information about the Marshallese people and the way we live.

weekly reflection. 4/9/16

Another week has passed and I have interviewed my pastor. He is an old man around his 60's and he is limited with English words. I asked him question about the Marshallese's people and things about our culture. He responded with a gentle and calm voice, remembering everything he could. By the way he was speaking I can tell that the Marshallese people have took a lot of lost when I asked him about the Atomic bomb testing back in the late 60's and early 50's.

  Proposal

"Where are you from?" I've been asked this everywhere I go and I answer back with the same words "I'm from beautiful south pacific, The Marshall Islands!" Most people don't know where the Marshall Islands are but after reading this you will learn where and who the Marshallese people are. This topic is perfect for me because it allows those who don't know where I'm from, to learn something new. The Marshall Islands is a very beautiful place. Its a place I call home.

"Marshallese" are the people of the Marshall Islands and growing up around Marshallese made me who I am today. My heritage background is God 1st, family 2nd, and school 3rd. I know most of my history, but soon I will get in touch with my pastor from church who is a full blooded Marshallese and lived most of his live in Islands. He is a elderly man who lived among the coral reefs. My pastor is considered a expert to me because people look to him when it comes to advise. The Marshall Islands is also know for the nuclear bomb testing on March 1954 (bikini atoll) during the intense cold war. The nuclear testing affected my islands and the people back then. It caused sickness, jelly baby's and even death.

The outcome of my research will not just help the student of  Palo Verde but those who have never seen the brown skin of a Marshallese. My product is going to be a pamphlet that will have all the things you need to know about my culture and my heritage.

My topic is going to be about my heritage and what it means to me and how everybody around me can learn about it. My heritage starts at the Marshall island and yes I'm "Marshallese". In the "692" is where I was born and its a part of my life. So this will be the best topic to share with the students of Palo Verde.
